The love of art arrived in my life very early. In grade school, I won competitions for my drawings. As a teenager I began working in oils, primarily landscapes, and entered fine art shows, where I was surprised that others liked my work enough to pay me for it. In my twenties, I started my own unique stationary business, through the use of craftart. I had this very flourishing business until I was in my thirties.
I continued my oil painting from time to time throughout my life. In the 1970's I began painting many abstract oils and then transitioned those abstracts into subliminal suggestion paintings.
Getting on with my life, I laid down my brushes, oils and canvases for many years; but I never gave up art entirely. I had many productive years in the world of craftart, mostly as hobbies. I think I have tried so many popular craftart forms that have come along throughout the years. In the early 1980's I taught many types of needlecrafts; however, my joy in needlecraft art is most lovingly expressed through crocheting, where I learned to design my own sweater patterns and other patterns; and this still remains a hobby I enjoy very much.
My love of artistic creation evolved into a gift basket business where I owned and ran a gift shop and designed custom gift baskets professionally for four years.
I've tried my hand at dollmaking, both cloth and porcelain dolls. I always had the desire to sculpt, so I have one and only one sculpture that I made.
One of my current forms of art expression is jewelry designing. I developed my jewelry design firm, LAUGHING GIRL JEWELRY DESIGNS, and currently handcraft fine artisan jewelry in silver and gold using gems and beads.
As of late, I have gone back to my oil paintings, and have expanded my mediums. The most favorite and most unique type of work to date is featherpainting--Yes, I paint on real feathers!! I am learning soft pastels, have done some watercolor work and enjoy finding canvases from nature, like the feathers and leaves and rocks and gourds!
I would be amiss if I didn't mention that another current love is that of my dogs. I breed and raise Yorkshire Terriers, and through my love and devotion of these tiny dogs, I have found new uses for my art. I have an online store, PLANET YORKIE and PLANET YORKIE 2 where I offer original yorkie art in the form of fine art portraits to crafty items.
I have no formal art studio, but am currently looking for an outbuilding to put on my property to use as a studio. For now, my easel or sketchbook follows me to various rooms in my home or outside to enjoy nature.
I am striving to work hard to become a better wildlife artist, and you will see some of my earlier wildlife work in watercolors shown here, along with new wildlife art.
